Church Suits Deals had thousands of near-duplicate catalogue URLs. Colour and size variants competed with the pages that could actually rank. Crawl budget and internal PageRank were spread thin.

A catalogue in this state competes with itself. Every variant URL is a candidate for the same query, so the authority that should concentrate on one strong page is divided across dozens of weak ones, and the crawler spends its budget re-reading pages that were never going to rank.

Answer engines had nothing factual to quote: prices, fabrics and occasion were buried in adjectives. The brand was invisible in AI Overviews for the queries that should have cited a specialist — a model cannot cite a claim it cannot extract.

01

Collapsed the duplicate graph

Canonicals, faceted indexation rules and a smaller set of entity pages for garment, occasion and size — so the catalogue stopped bidding against itself. Fewer, stronger URLs, each with a clear reason to exist.

02

Wrote answer-shaped product copy

First-sentence facts: fabric, occasion, price band. FAQ coverage on the pages people already landed on. The answer goes first and the persuasion second, because that is the order a model reads in.

03

Entity and internal link architecture

Schema and links that treat collections as entities, not filters, so a collection page reads as a subject rather than a search result. Models raise throughput; people still decide what is true.

04

Tracked citations, not just rankings

Share of answer in Overviews and chat tools reported monthly alongside organic sessions, because a citation that never produces a session is a diagnostic, not a result.

The catalogue stopped splitting its own authority. Consolidating variants into a smaller set of entity pages meant crawl budget and internal links concentrated on URLs that could actually compete, instead of being spread across near-duplicates.

Stating fabric, occasion and price as extractable facts gave answer engines something to quote. Visibility began to include being cited in the answer, not only ranking beneath it — which is why citation tracking is reported next to sessions rather than instead of them.
